It’s that time of year again! Kids are back at school, the thrill of summer has come to an end, and your kids are even more connected to the internet than they were all summer long. Now is the perfect time to remember internet safety is an important topic for your kids to not only hear at school, but to hear regularly at home as well! Kids often need to hear about internet safety practices several times before it really clicks.
Why is it important to communicate with your kids about internet safety–aren’t bad sites blocked from them at school? Great question! Yes, they are fairly protected at school, but as amazing as the internet can be- it can be just as scary. Most school districts do a great job of protecting students from ‘bad’ content. No filter is perfect and your child still has access to a large portion of the internet. Not only that, they have access to their peers. Cyber-bullying is a very common threat to many students. It’s important for your child to know how you expect them to behave on the internet and how you expect them to use the internet. Boundaries are important in all aspects of your child’s life, including the use of the internet.
